To hell with political correctedness!

Pardon my french, but I've to prove a point.

The recent Politically Correct media coverage of the Paralympics has been really infuriating. Journalists, over a spectrum of news media, seem to deliberately leaving out what specific disability the wining athlete has.

The PC seem to have forgotten that the Paralympics is named as such because it is for athletes with disabilities. They are not at the Olympics precisely because they are not able-bodied / minded sportspeople. This is the very basis of the event.

After some articles chronicled the disability of bronze medal horserider Laurentia Tan (who has cerebral palsy), some blinkered member of the public protested, admonishing the journalist to trump up Tan's achievement instead and calling fixate only on her world class achievement.. It seems to have worked, influencing CNA's editorial policy for the worse: swimmer Yip Pin Xui, who has won us our first Paralympics gold, has her muscular dystrophy status totally ignored!

Liang Kaicheng, who chided the information-rich article on Tan's horseback hurrah, should quit her facetiousness: Not talking about the elephant in the room suggests wilful blindness and immaturity. Even worse, avoiding the matter breeds a lack of understanding and public acceptance of the paralympians' disabilities. Sure, adulate Yip and co for their world-class feats, but without an additional understanding of their tribulations, we cannot fully share their triumph.
